Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT) might be selling its Xbox One without the Kinect sensor now, but that doesn't mean the company isn't focused on expanding that technology.
TheVerge reported today that Microsoft has a smartphone (codenamed: McLaren) which will allow for interaction via making gestures. For example, users will be able to hover a finger over the device's screen to interact with games and applications.
Another feature will be sensing how the phone is being held to block/unblock screen reorientation.
The device will use 3D Touch, which has been developed by Nokia (NYSE: NOK) over a number of years.
Only Microsoft will use the technology at first, so Samsung, HTC, LG, and other device makers will be a step behind.
Shares of Microsoft are down 0.4 percent.
