Like the famous War song goes: "Why can't we be friends?"
Well, if you're Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT) and Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL), that friendship is warming up quickly. According to reports out Wednesday, Microsoft will be releasing the first-ever version of its Office platform for use on Apple's iPhone and iPad devices.
The move is key for Microsoft to continue penetration of the corporate environment; Bloomberg quoted a Good Technology survey which showed that 97 percent of tablets bought by businesses were iPads.
Aside from Microsoft, Google (Nasdaq: GOOG) also has an app in Apple's App Store called Quickoffice, which allows for the viewing and editing of Office documents.
Microsoft's next version of Office will be released in the next few months. Windows 8 is also slated for release later in 2012.
No confirmation was made by either company.
Shares of Microsoft are up 1.5 percent while Apple is up 0.8 percent early Wednesday.
