Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT) is seeing support for its Windows Phone platform grow.
Digitimes reported on Monday that Microsoft has entered partnerships with a number of China- and India-based handset makers. Bolstering the switch was Microsoft's recent effort to lower hardware requirements and trim licensing fees.
Handset makers will be allowed to utilize dual-SIM technology, run on TD-LTE networks, and add software interfaces of their own, according to sources.
Microsoft is also working with Qualcomm (Nasdaq: QCOM) on launching a reference design for Windows Phone 8 devices to shorten time to market.
Additions to WP handset makers include Lava, Gionee, Lenovo, ZTE, Huawei, and Karbonn. Samsung, HTC, and Compal are companies that are already on board with the WP platform.
Shares of Microsoft are lower in early trading.
