Microsoft's (Nasdaq: MSFT) CEO, Steve Ballmer, is currently speaking at the National Summit Detroit. The National Summit is a gathering of Fortune 500 CEOs, where they are discussing the issues of the day and what the innovation could look like in the future.

Steve Ballmer grew up in Michigan and his father worked in the automotive industry. Below are highlights from Microsoft's Steve Ballmer's enthusiastic speech.
  • The US has to provide a first-class education. The US is falling behind in math and science.
  • Investing in innovation, is about investing in people, unlocking their creativity.
  • Need to keep an open mind.
  • He joked that the first innovation typically fails, but you keep coming and coming and eventually you get it right (perhaps referring to Microsoft's new search engine, Bing).
  • Microsoft will have to be tenacious and continue to innovate to compete with Google (Nasdaq: GOOG) in search. Ballmer jokingly suggested that conference attendees should click on a couple ads on the sides of Bing.com.
