McDonald's (MCD) Japan Affiliate Reports 8.6% Drop in December Comps

McDonald's Corp. (NYSE: MCD) shares are indicated lower Tuesday morning following an update in one of its key regions.
McDonald's Holdings Co. (Japan) Ltd., a proprietor of McDonald's in Japan, reported comparable-restaurant sales fell 8.6 percent in December. The lower comps is the ninth report in a row of a year-over-year decline.
Factors McDonald's Holdings cited include weakness in Japan's restaurant industry as well as the company offering fewer promotions.
Despite the drop in comps, traffic fell 0.8 percent in December, a narrower drop than the 2.6 percent decline the prior month.
