Lionsgate (LGF) Active as Latest Flick Fails to Draw Audiences

Lionsgate Entertainment (NYSE: LGF) is positive Monday amid a frightening opening weekend for its latest film offering.

Data from BoxOfficeMojo has Lionsgate's I, Frankenstein taking in $8.3 million last weekend, putting it sixth on the list of top movies for the three-day period ending January 26th.

Ride Along, with Ice Cube and Kevin Hart, took the top spot at $21.2 million for a two-week total of $75.4 million. The comedy was released by Comcast's (Nasdaq: CMCSA) Universal Pictures. Its the first time since 1994 that a film studio has held the top two spots for two consecutive weekends.

Performance for Lionsgate in 2014 has sagged a bit; the studio is down 19 percent from the same period last year to gross receipts of $46.37 million. Shares are up 1.3 percent.
