Leap (LEAP), MetroPCS (PCS) Gaming for AT&T's (T) Attention?

Leap Wireless (Nasdaq: LEAP) ad MetroPCS (NYSE: PCS) may be displaying their plumage peacock-style in order to attract attention from AT&T (NYSE: T).
How's that? Well, besides quarterly reports -- which don't generally appear on the same day, but are close -- you never really see Leap or PCS simply toss out subscriber numbers early. That changed late-Wednesday, with both updating on fourth-quarter numbers.
Here's the numbers:
Just last week, JPMorgan also mulled the possibility of AT&T gunning for the duo.
Both Leap and PCS are down pretty good Thursday, 7.9 percent and 8.5 percent, respectively, although they are up huge on the week.
How's that? Well, besides quarterly reports -- which don't generally appear on the same day, but are close -- you never really see Leap or PCS simply toss out subscriber numbers early. That changed late-Wednesday, with both updating on fourth-quarter numbers.
Here's the numbers:
- Leap added 175,000 gross subs in the fourth-quarter of 2011; and
- PCS said it added 1.22 million gross subs, subject to adjustment. PCS noted the number was 7 percent above one reported in the same period last year.
Just last week, JPMorgan also mulled the possibility of AT&T gunning for the duo.
