Last-Minute Attempt to Block Tesla (TSLA) Dealership Thwarted in Ohio

December 4, 2013 7:44 AM EST
Tesla's (Nasdaq: TSLA) fight for direct-to-customer sales is still alive in Ohio.

According to The Columbus Dispatch, lawmakers in Ohio opted out of taking-up a one paragraph amendment submitted by the Ohio Auto Dealers Association (OADA) which would have blocked Tesla from owning an dealership in the state.

OADA planted the amendment in a bill which simply required drivers to pull over when approaching a maintenance vehicle, the Dispatch noted. The Ohio House committee passed the bill sans amendments after Tesla reps pushed hard for the change.

Tesla will open up its first dealership in Easton, Ohio, on Friday, with a location in Cincinnati slated to open next week.

Shares of Tesla are positive in early trading Wednesday.
