Las Vegas Sands (LVS) Up Over 25% Today

March 13, 2009 2:55 PM EDT
Shares of Las Vegas Sands (NYSE: LVS) are rising today because investors cheered a positive Bernstein research note. In the note, the analyst said that Las Vegas Sands will survive its recent hiccups because it has enough quality assets it could dispose of to prevent any breach of its debt covenants.

The analyst believes that Las Vegas Sands' share price underestimates the probability that the company can use its assets and position in the marketplace to survive during this current economic downtown.

The analyst, Janet Brashear, said: "Selling minority equity stakes in core assets is the single, most powerful lever that (the company) can pull, providing $1.8 billion of liquidity."

She further speculated that LVS could consider selling the Four Seasons Hotel, the Sands Macau and the Cotai Strip undeveloped parcels.

Las Vegas Sands is currently trading up 27% to $2.25 on higher than normal volume.
