Las Vegas Sands (LVS) Stock Spikes Mid-Day; Now Up 16%

Shares of Las Vegas Sands (NYSE: LVS) have just spiked in mid-day trading. We are not hearing any news that could explain the drastic surge in price and volume.

After trading higher at the open, shares sunk into negative territory, bouncing between black and red, until just after 11am ET, when shares began spiking. In the last 10 minutes of trading, shares have skyrocketed from about $11.40 to over $12.70. The stock is now up more than 16% from yesterday's close.

Other big name gaming stocks are not responding similarly: shares of Wynn Resorts (Nasdaq: WYNN) are down 1%, while shares of MGM MIRAGE (NYSE: MGM) are down 5.6%.

Las Vegas Sands stock has been absolutely slaughtered over the last year. In October of 2007, shares of Las Vegas Sands were trading over $130, marking a more than 90% slide in about 12 months.
