Las Vegas Sands (LVS) Shares Surge 75% Today

October 29, 2008 12:21 PM EDT
Shares of Las Vegas Sands (NYSE: LVS) have surged 74% today, recovering a small portion of the stock's dramatic decline from a $145 stock to a $5 stock over the last year.

Better-than-expected results from rival MGM (NYSE: MGM) juiced Las Vegas Sands' stock this AM. A mid-day comment from a Morgan Stanley analyst, saying asset sales may bridge the company's financing shortfall, is adding to the upside.

Much of the casino company's downfall has been related to fears the company may not be able to access the credit markets. In addition, consumers are feeling the pain and cutting back on discretionary items, like trips to Vegas.

Las Vegas Sands Corp. and its subsidiaries develop multi use integrated resorts worldwide.
