Large British Newspaper Cuts-Out BlackBerry App (BBRY) (NSWA)

October 1, 2013 3:12 PM EDT
Amid developers saying they would stick with BlackBerry's (Nasdaq: BBRY) BB10 recently, some might see it as a frivlous effort. Reuters pointed out Tuesday that Britain's The Times and Sunday Times are pulling mobile apps for BB10, saying that few people used it. The news sources apps for Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) iOS and Google (Nasdaq: GOOG) Android will remain unchanged.

What makes this more notable is that BlackBerry was said to have a stronger presence in Europe versus the U.S. and other major markets over the last few years. Europe was supposed to be the last stronghold due to wide use of its BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) service.

Both the The Times and Sunday Times are owned by News Corp. (Nasdaq: NWSA).

Shares of BlackBerry are down 0.3 percent on Tuesday.
