Katie Couric Joins Disney (DIS) with New Talk Show on ABC

Walt Disney’s (NYSE: DIS) ABC signed former CBS News anchor Katie Couric to produce and host an afternoon talk show, effectively replacing the time in which Oprah Winfrey had previously occupied.
The show is expected to begin in September of 2012. Katie will be hosting interviews and participating in special event coverage.
Bloomberg reports the talk show will cost $40 million to produce. Funds will be an advance against future earnings the venture would share.
Shares of DIS are currently up $0.18, or almost 0.5 percent, to $39.56.
