With GM's (NYSE: GM) 2008 global sales report, showing that sales were down 11% to 8.35 million vehicles, Toyota Motors (NYSE: TM) has officially passed GM as the world's largest automaker.
Toyota Motors' 2008 sales fell 4% to 8.92 million vehicles.
While everyone knew Toyota was gaining ground and likely passed GM in 2008, this makes it official. It is a symbolic stat on the decline of Detroit.
