Android phones would love to go back to the good old days when the iPhone was only available with AT&T (NYSE: T) and not Verizon (NYSE: VZ). Within the past five months, iPhone sales have surpassed Androids with both service providers.
A survey Thursday showed the iPhone is the number one selling phone at 51 percent of Verizon stores, while 38 percent of them have a tie between the iPhone and Android, typically the Samsung Droid Charge or the HTC Thunderbolt.
65 percent of AT&T stores surveyed said the iPhone was its top selling phone, over double the number of stores which reported the top seller as the Android, 31 percent.
Together iPhone and Android phones are controlling the market by continuously gaining market share over less competitive companies such as Research In Motion (Nasdaq: RIMM), whose BlackBerry was rarely mentioned by respondents.
