Intel (Nasdaq: INTC) may have a winner on its hands with the new ultrabook it plans to release, but there may be one problem.
According to reports, Intel may struggle to keep the device under $1,000 at launch.
Asustek and Hewlett-Packard (NYSE: HPQ) will launch Intel's ultrabooks. However, due to increasing production costs, as well as rising yield rates for panels and key components, the ultrabooks may retail for $1,000 to $1,600.
Due to the uncertainty, Asustek will release the ultrabook in limited quantities to test market response before an expected larger roll-out sometime in 2012.
The prices aren't that extreme, but will venture into territory which isn't generally Hewlett-Packard's stronger market... the premium crowd. Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) is more comfortable in that segment; it's MacBook Air starts at $999 and MacBook Pro at $1,199.
