Intel (INTC) Acquires Mashery; Could Lead to Stronger Presence in Mobile

April 17, 2013 4:50 PM EDT
Intel (Nasdaq: INTC) is said to be making a purchase-'ry'.

Reports have the chip giant acquiring Mashery, which ReadWrite describes as a seven-year-old company...that specializes in linking together Web-based software and services. Terms of the deal were disclosed, but with 125 employees, it shouldn't have a material impact on Intel's results.

The move should expand Intel's goal from making the best silicon processor, into focusing more on how to integrate that processor for better performance in the network.

Mashery's developer community, which tap into the service for access to "dozens" of API feeds, number in the 160,000 range. Feeds come in from names like FourSquare, Netflix (Nasdaq: NFLX), USA Today, and more.

Intel is lower in late trading Wednesday after finishing relatively flat on the session.
