IHS (IHS) Boosts Apple (AAPL) iPad Shipment Outlook

August 24, 2011 2:41 PM EDT
How many iPads can Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) possibly sell? More than you might think.

Or, at least, more than IHS's (NYSE: IHS) iSuppli previously thought.

Pending settlement of supply issues for its iPad 2, IHS thinks Apple is on track to move 44.2 million units in 2011, up from a prior estimate calling for 43.7 million.

But IHS believes momentum will carry through over several years for Apple, with it's 2015 iPad shipment expectations increased 22.7 percent from 97.9 million to 120.1 million. IHS also boosted its overall market share outlook for the iPad from 64 to 74 percent in 2011, and from 32 to 43.6 percent in 2015.

IHS also said it expects Apple to retain the majority of tablet market share through 2013, which is one year longer than previously thought.

IHS increased it's tablet market outlook from 58.9 million to 60 million units for 2011, and from 262.1 million to 275.3 million units in 2015, a 1.9 percent and 5 percent increase, respectively.
