Hide Your Wife and Kids - It's July 1st
So it's July 1st.
According to Meredith Whitney, speaking with CNBC this week, munis are going to implode.
Wait for it. Waaaaiiiittttt for it.
The WSJ put out a report today showing that, amid extra-hard praying and several ceremonial dances, munis were, in fact, the top performing fixed-income group in the second quarter. WSJ says munis had a total return of 4.36 percent in the period, beating 7to 10 year Treasuries at 3.88 percent, and international corporate debt at 3.34 percent.
Further, the S&P 500 tracked down 1.67 percent in the quarter.
So maybe Meredith will turn out to be right but nothing at this point appears imminent.
