Of all Apple's products, the one item that hasn't received an onslaught of competition is its iPod Touch media player.
Well, that might change real soon.
According to reports out Thursday, Taiwan electronics giant HTC filed a patent for a very "iPod"-like device. Though it looks like a typical smartphone design, the patent makes no reference to mobile network access or other phone features.
In fact, there is a kickstand spanning the short width of the device, with speakers in the middle and at each end, implying it should be positioned to mimic a mini-HDTV.
Reports also have the device running on Google's (Nasdaq: GOOG) Android operating system and being fully integrated with Google Play...Google's changeover from the Android App store.
Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) is indicated slightly lower Thursday morning.
