Hewlett-Packard's (NYSE: HPQ) reign atop the PC heap may be in jeopardy as China's appetite for technology continues to grow.

Benefiting from the surge is Lenovo (OTCBB: LNVGY). With primary operations in Morrisville, NC; Beijing, China; and Singapore, the lower-cost OEM is already popular in the Chinese market. Shipments for Lenovo ripped 14.5 percent from the second to third quarter, and gained 24.8 percent from the same period last year, to 12.518 million

By comparison, H-P shipped 16.284 million units in the third-quarter, up 5.9 percent sequentially, but just 2.6 percent higher from the same period last year.

The numbers placed Lenovo now ahead of Dell (Nasdaq: DELL) in global PC shipments. Dell reported a 1.3 percent increase to 11.118 million units, which was slightly lower than in the same period last year.

Acer retained it's comfortable fourth spot with 9.473 million shipment,s though that number was down 20.9 percent from last year.

Overall, total PC shipments in the third-quarter rose 2.6 percent from 88.092 million last year, to 90.360 in the most recent quarter.

Both Dell and Hewlett-Packard and Dell are trading higher Wednesday.
