Hewlett-Packard (NYSE: HPQ) is aiming to ship a massive amount of notebook PCs in the third quarter.
HP is aiming for shipments of 12 million notebooks this quarter, representing a 30 percent increase from the second quarter. If the company hits this mark, it would dispel the argument the notebook is gone the way of the dodo as tablet PCs take over.
Hewlett-Packard recently named Stephen DeWitt as SVP of its webOS global business unit, and Digitimes notes the move means Hewlett-Packard is becoming more bullish on its third-quarter prospects.
Impact on procurement following the management change will also be limited, with Hewlett-Packard's purchase potentially encouraging other notebook vendors to take on more deliveries from ODM partners.
