Google (GOOG) Threatens To Leave China After Security Breaches

January 13, 2010 6:43 AM EST
Google (Nasdaq: GOOG) said it is reviewing its business operations in China following a number of account attacks with the goal of accessing the Gmail accounts of Chinese human rights activists.

Google said they have decided they are no longer willing to continue censoring results on Google.cn.

Google will talk to the Chinese government on a way they could operate as an unfiltered search engine, but it may ultimately mean shutting down Google.cn and offices in China.

This news could have positive implications for China-based search engine Baidu.com (Nasdaq: BIDU).
