Google (GOOG) Tablet Taking Aim at Amazon (AMZN) Kindle Fire

January 5, 2012 7:08 AM EST
Google (Nasdaq: GOOG) isn't resting on it's laurels when it comes to the tablet market, but it's also not shooting for the stars.

According to reports from Digitimes, Google may be targeting Amazon's (Nasdaq: AMZN) Kindle Fire tablet with the launch of its own device.

Originally expected to aim for Apple's (Nasdaq: AAPL) iPad tablet, sources now indicate that Google might be looking for a more general audience for its first tablet.

Digitimes noted that Google Taiwan didn't indicate heading about any plans to launch a branded tablet, but that is expected.

The launch of the Google tablet could be in March or April, with a 7-inch panel, Android 4.0, and a price at or below $199.

Shares of Google are indicated lower Thursday, after hitting multi-year highs recently.
