Google (GOOG) Play App Downloads Surpass Massive 25B Milestone

September 26, 2012 9:30 AM EDT
According to the Official Android Blog, app downloads from Google (Nasdaq: GOOG) Play have bested the 25 billion mark. And, yes, the curve does look parabolic. About 10 billion apps were downloaded near the end of 2011, with 15 billion by the end of the first-quarter 2012.

Google also said there are now 675,000 apps in the marketplace, or the equivalent of needing to download about 26 apps each day over the course of an average lifespan.

Of course, that's our stat. Here's Google's take on the number: "Twenty-five billion is more than twice the distance, in miles, that the Voyager 1 spacecraft has travelled since its launch 35 years ago. It’s the amount of time, in minutes, that have passed since some of our earliest ancestors began to set foot in Europe."

Shares of Google are just about flat Wednesday.
