Google (GOOG) Issues Warning Over Visiting Twitpic (FB)

Google (Nasdaq: GOOG) is going on the offensive against Twitter, it seems. Well, at least for one day over the weekend.

Reports out Sunday had the search giant putting a blockade against users trying to access Twitpic. When click on the site, a Google warning popped up stating that there was "Malware Ahead!," with users urged to turn back.

Twitpic has been listed a "suspicious" under Google's Safe Browsing tool, though it was noted that "suspicious" content wasn't found on the site for the past 90 days.

Since news of the block broke, Google unflagged Twitpic from its malware scanner.

No one is sure why the site was flagged in the first place. Recently, Twitter and Facebook's (Nasdaq: FB) Instagram had a falling out of sorts, with Instagram disabling ability to post photos from the app to Twitter. That was somewhat good news for twitter, with its Twitpic platform now becoming the primary go-to for photo submissions.

Shares of Google are flat in early trading Monday.
