Google Inc.'s (NASDAQ: GOOG) Android Market reached 100,000 apps on Monday, according to the Android developer Twitter account.
The Android app market jumped from 70,000 on July 15 to 100,000, a pace of 294 apps per day.
This is a strong milestone for Google's Android products, but the operating system still trails Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL), which has an estimated 280,000 apps, adding about 417 apps per day since June 7.
The Gap may start closing as sales of Google Android based smartphones surged past the iPhone from Apple, according to recent data.
