As StreetInsider.com reported earlier, Valassis Communications(NYSE: VCI) projects 2008 earnings well ahead of Wall Street's forecast, saying cost savings related to its $1.2 billion purchase of Advo have exceeded expectations.
Valassis Chief Executive Allan Schultz said the Advo cost savings "have exceeded our 2007 targets and our shared mail optimization efforts have improved margins. He added the company will focus on cutting costs in the first half of 2008, and then switch its focus to increasing revenue. Shultz added: "This is expected to set the stage for long-term revenue and earnings growth."
This is welcome relief to investors who were angry at Valassis' purchase Advo. Investors are learning not to doublt Allan Schultz, who has led the Livonia, Mich., newspaper coupon maker since 1998.
