Goldman Sachs Group Inc. (NYSE: GS) may soon reach a settlement in its fraud case with the Securities and Exchange Commission, according to sources familiar with the situation cited in a report from the New York Post.
The move may allow Goldman to keep its name from being dragged through the mud in a public spat with the SEC, and keep the damage from the fraud case to the firm's reputation to a minimum.
"It's almost a certainty that there will be a settlement," one of the sources stated.
Another source told the Post that Goldman would like to avoid another public bombardment from the "unlimited supply of ammunition" that the SEC has and used to grill the firm at the Senate Subcommittee hearing on Tuesday.
