Gold Takes A Pause On Trek To $1000 (GLD, GDX)

September 4, 2009 7:22 AM EDT
After surging over the past few days, Gold is slightly lower today. The precious metal is down $1.40 to $990.30 per ounce on the spot market.

Many have been looking for gold to surge through the $1000 level during this recent run, which looks like a safe bet.

Many have been gaining exposure to gold through ETF SPDR Gold Shares (NYSE: GLD) or through the miners as represented by Market Vectors Gold Miners ETF (NYSE: GDX), which seeks to replicate the price and yield performance of the NYSE Arca Gold Miners Index. Top holdings of the index include Barrick Gold (NYSE: ABX), Goldcorp (NYSE: GG, Newmont Mining (NYSE: NEM), Kinross Gold (NYSE: KGC), and Yamana Gold (NYSE: AUY).
