PepsiCo (NYSE: PEP) has had a lot of great ideas in the past: Mountain Dew, Doritos, Lay's Chips, Pepsi Cola, Doritos, Munchos Doritos, and so on. However, the latest iteration of Cracker Jack snacks might not sit well with parents.
Pepsi's Frito Lay brand has taken the best of Cracker Jack (read: nuts and popcorn) and the best of Red Bull and combined them into one, heart-stopping idea: Cracker Jack'd. This is a real item.
The product debuts as companies like Monster Energy (Nasdaq: MNST), Living Essentials (makers of 5-Hour Energy), and others are coming under national scrutiny for potentially disastrous results from their products. Monster has been recently linked to the death of a 14-year -old girl, with a lawsuit on the company still in the works. The same could be said for 5-Hour Energy.
Worse than the beverages, Cracker Jack is delicious. When's the last time you said, "Oh, Cracker Jack! I'll just have a little!" only to finish off the box? Now, image the comfortable wave of sugar and caffeine rushing through your body, mixing with the regret of eating an entire package of something. That's the power of Cracker Jack'd.
Pepsi shares are lower on the session.
