General Motors Corp. (NYSE: GM) issued early paychecks this week to all workers in a move GM said is intended to calm employees who fear they won't get paid if the company files for bankruptcy, according to the Wall Street Journal.
GM spokesman Tom Wilkinson did say that employees' pay would not be at risk in a bankruptcy, but GM thought this would be a good way to reassure workers they will get their checks.
Around 90,000 U.S. hourly and salaried workers will get paid three days early this week. GM mailed or direct deposited the checks Tuesday rather than Friday as regularly scheduled.
