If General Motors (NYSE: GM) is looking to light a fire under sales of smaller electric vehicles, it might have found a good formula.
Reports out Tuesday have the Detroit, Michigan-based automaker looking to release an electric version of its Spark compact car. The Spark EV will make its debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show, which opens to the media on Wednesday.
Two key features of the new vehicle include an alleged 20-minute charging time and integration of Apple's (Nasdaq: AAPL) virtual assistant: Siri.
Base price of the Spark EV is $25,000 sans any tax credits.
The vehicle will be able to charge its batteries in seven hours using a traditional 240-volt outlet, though it also has a "fast charge" option which will get the vehicle to 80 percent capacity within 20 minutes. The power supply generates about 130 horsepower and a jaw-dropping 400 pound-feet of torque...or just about the equivalent to the max output from Ford's (NYSE: F) F-150 pickup truck equipped with a 6.2-liter V-8 engine.
Shares of GM are about flat Tuesday morning.
