Ford (F) Sold 175K Autos in August, Up 11% YoY

Ford Motor Company (NYSE: F) announced total sales for the month of August rose 11 percent from a year ago to 175,220 units.

"Ford's fuel-efficient cars, crossovers and trucks continue winning over consumers in the marketplace," said Ken Czubay, Ford vice president, U.S. Marketing, Sales and Service.

The Ford brand itself was up 16 percent as sales of the Escape rose 39 percent to 20,607 units and sales of the new Explorer totaled 9,901.

Through August, Ford was the best-selling brand of utility vehicles in America, with sales surging 30 percent to 377,112.

Ford truck sales rose 5 percent to 67,282 units as its F-Series sold 48,795 units, up 2 percent year-over-year. The company’s new F-150 with a V-6 engine accounted for 57 percent of the company’s total truck sales.

Transit Connect sales totaled 2,734, representing a record for August and up 35 percent from last year.

Fiesta sales totaled 5,833 units and were up 76 percent from last August. The company’s Focus sales only rose 9 percent on 14,093 units.

Year to date, Ford brand car sales totaled 484,072 units, up 22 percent year-over-year.

The company’s Lincoln brand experienced a sales increase of 25 percent on 57,823 units after rising by 40 percent in July of 2011. The MKZ’s sales jumped 50 percent to 2,337 units and the MKS sales rose 35 percent. MKX sales increased 15 percent from August of 2010.

"We are absolutely focused on making Lincoln a world-class luxury brand with compelling vehicles and an exceptional ownership experience to match," said Czubay. "We also have a lot of Lincoln news on the way – with seven new or significantly refreshed models in the next three years."

For North American production in the fourth quarter, Ford expects to produce 645,000 vehicles, representing a 9 percent increase year-over-year. The company’s third-quarter production plan outlook remains at 630,000 vehicles.
