Ford (F) Begins Search for CEO Mulally's Replacement

December 6, 2011 7:17 AM EST
On the cusp of its recovery, Ford might be looking for a new CEO already.

According to reports Tuesday, Ford (NYSE: F) CEO Alan Mulally is expected to retire in about two years. In anticipation of this, Ford has begun a search to find its new leader.

The WSJ, on Tuesday, has mulled some potential candidates, including:
  • John Krafcik, Hyundai Motor's North American CEO;

  • Ford's Americas President Mark Fields;

  • Asian head Joe Hinrichs; and

  • Novelis CEO Phil Martens.
Chair Bill Ford, Jr., has said in the past that the company would like to fill the position from within. Ford wrote to the WSJ: "At Ford, we are fortunate to have a strong list of internal candidates and the Board is pleased to support their further development. While our preference always will be to develop talent internally, we also survey the external environment for potential
candidates as a regular course of action."

None of the candidates, nor Mulally, issued a comment in response to reports.

Ford is trading 0.8 percent lower Tuesday morning.
