Currently, Ford's (NYSE: F) CEO, Alan Mulally, is on stage in Detroit at The National Summit. The National Summit is a forum where many Fortune 500 company CEOs are gathering this week to discuss the economic climate and the future. Below are some highlights of what Alan Mulally had to say about Ford, leadership, and manufacturing.

On a side note, if Alan Mulally does not work out as Ford's CEO, I think he could get a job on Saturday Night Live.

You can see highlightshere from what Alan Mulally told CNBC's Phil Lebeau on CNBC this morning.
  • There can’t be a more important time for U.S. leadership than now.
  • In regards to GM (NYSE: GM) and Chrysler taking the Government bailout, Mulally said, "I really like the Ford plan."
  • Ford's plan enters on making products people want, best-in-class, and making each vehicle with minimum resources and time.
  • Mulally said he has never seen a more talented workforce than at Ford. When Mulally arrived at Ford, the company's tremendous talent was constrained by the company culture. Mulally was previously at Boeing (NYSE: BA).
  • The more compelling the vision, the more it unleashes innovation.
  • Mulally said the US needs to create an environment where businesses can innovate. The US is in a battle for design and manufacturing leadership.
