Facebook Overtakes Microsoft (MSFT) in U.K. Site Visits for May

Facebook is gaining further traction worldwide, overtaking Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT) websites to become the second most popular site in the U.K., second only to Google (Nasdaq: GOOG).
According to data from UKOM/Nielsen, Facebook gained the attention of 26.8 million visitors in Britain in May 2011, which is a 7 percent increase from the same period in the previous year. The champ, Google, saw 33.9 million visitors in May. Microsoft sites had a combined 26.2 million visitors across its MSN/WindowsLive/Bing sites.
Reuters notes that: "Elsewhere, Facebook attracted 140 million visitors in the United States, up 12 percent. In Spain its numbers were up 7 percent, in France 18 percent, in Italy 26 percent and in Germany 72 percent."
Twitter saw a 33 percent jump in the month, to 6.1 million visits, following a scandal involving Man United soccer player Ryan Giggs.
