Facebook (Nasdaq: FB) generally does upgrades to its service "quietly," i.e. without notifying users. This generally makes sense given the sheer amount of upgrades Facebook implements to its different platforms (tablets, PCs, smartphones) annually.
Other times its quite unclear which direction Facebook plans on going...
Recently Facebook released a modification which allowed users to find friends nearby, whether the user knew the person or not. Clearly, this is creepy on all sorts of levels.
Though the feature has since been removed, one company, Friendthem, said Facebook stole the technology. Which is highly unlikely. Either way, the feature has been removed so users will have to actually message friends to see where they're at. A Facebook spokesperson told CNET it was being tested by a few engineers. (How many is a few? Are three engineers making updates for a multi-billion dollar social media giant?)
Also, Facebook basically hid a person's regular email and replaced it with a (your name)@facebook.com address. Instead of simply messaging someone, Facebook might be trying to get further in the email game, maybe to compete more wholly with Google (Nasdaq: GOOG). We're not sure whether the feature is back to normal or not as of this writing.
Again, these are just two recently made changes. Given its size and scale, we'd be surprised if there wasn't a "What's Facebook Changed Now?" tongue-in-cheek website out there.
