Tech start-up Airtime officially launched on Tuesday when its founders Sean Parker and Sean Fanning introduced the company to the world at an event in New York. The new company will offer users real-time video chat and will be integrated into Facebook (NASDAQ: FB).
Parker and Fanning are best known as the founders Napster. Parker is also an early Facebook supporter and is now a billionaire following the company's IPO. According to reports, the startup raised $33 million so far, including investments from celebrities such as Ashton Kutcher. It remains to be seen if the company will deliver value to Facebook users, and considering Facebook itself is having difficulties after its botched IPO, it could be a rocky road for Airtime.
Watchers were buzzing yesterday after Parker had numerous problems with the demonstration, another ominous sign for the service which seeks to take up where Chatroulette left off.
