Facebook (FB) Begins Testing Yelp-Like Platform

Yelp (Nasdaq: YELP) shares are on watch Tuesday morning as one social-media powerhouse is looking to offer some stiff competition.

According to Search Engine Land, Facebook (Nasdaq: FB) is quietly testing something called "Facebook Professional Services." The platform is for the desktop only, right now, and offers company listings along with user reviews, something that is the bread-and-butter of Yelp's operations.

Facebook Professional Services allows searching through 85 business types within a user's location and also offers search suggestions.

While a five-star ratings system is being used in the review process, search results might also take into consideration a users history, liked pages, etc., when offering results.

Shares of Yelp are positive in early trading.
