A government-mandated management review of bank management has come under questioning by the FDIC over the generally positive reviews received by Citigroup Inc. (NYSE: C) , a Wall Street Journal article reported today. Part of the review called for Citigroup executives to rate the effectiveness of the colleagues.
The report, conducted by recruiting and consulting firm Egon Zehnder, awarded strong overall marks to Citigroup's top management, including CEO Vikram Pandit.
The consulting firm was initially vetoed, being a particular favorite of Citi.
The FDIC questions whether of not Mr. Pandit is capable of running a company so complicated and troubled as Citigroup.
