Reports of Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) cutting MacBook shipments may be greatly exaggerated.
According to Digitimes, which has checked with upstream suppliers, Apple has not yet marked down its shipment forecast for the fourth quarter. Chatter recently suggested supplier Catcher Technology halted production on an odor issue, as well as Thailand flooding having an impact on hard disk drive supplies.
Following the halt, Catcher has set up equipment to eliminate the odors and is waiting for government inspection before restarting, which should happen soon.
Additionally, Apple supplier Quanta Computer reported notebook shipments of 5.3 million in October. Though specifics of the numbers weren't released, speculation surrounds much of the positive shipment data came from Apple and its MacBook Pro.
All this adds up to Apple MacBook shipments now expected to be rather normal for the fourth quarter, meaning there should be plenty for the upcoming holiday shopping season.
Shares of Apple are 0.2 percent lower Tuesday morning.
