People like to eat hot pizza. And, Domino's Pizza (NYSE: DPZ) is pulling out all the stops to make sure that happens.
Stop 1: No ovens in cars.
Domino's is addressing this issue by creating the "DXP," a custom-built pizza delivery machine.
Russell Weiner, president of Domino’s USA, commented, The Domino’s DXP is the first purpose-built vehicle aimed at revolutionizing pizza delivery ... This innovation allows drivers to do their jobs with greater ease and efficiency, and demonstrates that Domino’s is absolutely fanatical about making perfect deliveries.
The DXP is built upon the Chevy Spark platform. Domino's tapped a former GM R&D executive and Roush Enterprises to assist on the vehicle.
And, yes, the DXP does have a dedicated website.
Domino's is working to get 100 of the vehicles moving across 25 markets within the next three months. Vehicles will cost $20,000 - $25,000 to franchise owners.
Shares of Domino's are modestly higher Tuesday.
