Did Arrested Development put Netflix (Nasdaq: NFLX) into a new growth trajectory?

The WSJ reports Monday that Netflix is opening up to rescuing ailing shows and looking at serialized dramas for content. One example cited is The Killing, which ran for two seasons, but was resurrected by Netflix in 2013 with an exclusive deal.

Netflix is also looking at other shows and securing exclusive deals, which effectively keeps the competition out of the shows gain traction.

The WSJ also points out that Netflix is gaining expansive rights and cutting out more plain-vanilla programming like reality TV.

Content is also bolstering Netflix's confidence when it comes to negotiations, something studios might not be too happy about.

With Arrested Development being a relative success, Netflix might be more willing to spend on recently cancelled shows to gain content that most might have missed due to marketing or scheduling. Shares of Netflix are up 2.4 percent Monday.
