Did Apple (AAPL) Prematurely Eject Google Maps?

Time for a quick Midday Quiz!

On its contract with Google (Nasdaq: GOOG) for Google Maps, Apple had:
  1. Zero time left
  2. Llama
  3. One year left
  4. Newark, NJ

If you answered 'C' then give yourself 2 points! (Give yourself 10 points, however, if you answered 'B' or 'D.' No points for 'A,' sorry.)

According to new reports out today, Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) had plenty of time left on the Google Maps Clock. TheVerge today said the contract was valid for another year.

So why would Apple pull the plug so soon and replace a known product with one that is full of glitches? Mainly, the decision was based on quality of Google Maps, which Apple thought was falling behind what was available to Android users. The decision to make the switch was done ahead of Apple's WWDC in June. Another reason is they simply HATE Google and blame them with ripping off the iPhone to make the android operating system.

So, although Google is moving to make its own app for iOS 6, sources have said that the product won't be shipped until next year, at best.

Apple is off 1.4 percent today and Google is down about 0.2 percent.
