According to data expected from Beverage Digest later today, Coca-Cola (NYSE: KO) has acquired the top two spots in the U.S. soda market, with their Classic at the number one spot, and Diet Coke grabbing the number two spot from PepsiCo's (NYSE: PEP) Pepsi-Cola.
Beverage Digest reported last month that Pepsi-Cola reported a 0.5 percentage point drop in market share, compared to just a 0.1 percentage point drop from Diet Coke. The WSJ notes that data also includes restaurant sales, when Coca-Cola is the lead player.
PepsiCo. deferred advertising it's cola during the Super Bowl this year, and instead focused more attention on Refresh Project, which donated $20 million for unique ideas that are changing the world. Pepsi believes that the move improved their image, and will add to sales over the long-haul, rather than just month to month.
Pepsi shares are 0.2% lower pre-market, and Coca-Cola is up 0.5%.
