March 2, 2011 12:01 PM EST
Cisco Systems Inc. (NASDAQ: CSCO) may need to acquire EMC Inc. (NYSE: EMC) to regain the attention of its investors after two consecutive disappointing quarterly reports.

DealReporter stated this reality on Wednesday, citing several unidentified industry bankers.

Cisco seemingly is in no hurry to acquire EMC, which has a market cap of $56 billion, six-times the total Cisco's largest acquisition ever when it acquired Cerent Corp. in 1999 for $7 billion.

Shares of EMC are up 1.09 percent to $26.88 in midday market movement on Wednesday, while shares of Cisco are down 10 cents to $18.46.
