China's Wen Plans To Continue To Invest In U.S. Dollars

March 13, 2009 3:56 PM EDT
At Premier Wen Jiabao's annual press conference, he was confident in China's economy, saying his government's finances give it room to spend more to support growth if needed, but he did have some concern about the outlook for the U.S. and the safety of its Treasury bonds, according to the Wall Street Journal

China is typically not vocal on how the US is handling its finances, but as the U.S. government's largest creditor, China has recently become more vocal in attempts to ensure its interests are heard by our government.

Wen did did not offer specific ideas on economic policy, but called on the U.S. to "maintain its credibility, honor its commitments and guarantee the security of Chinese assets."

Mr. Wen did indicate that China does not plan on making any changes to its $1.946 trillion stockpile of foreign reserves, much of which is in U.S. dollars
