Censorship Case Against Baidu (BIDU), China Comes to U.S.

June 10, 2013 12:19 PM EDT
Baidu (Nasdaq: BIDU) is just positive on Monday's session following reports that a lawsuit brought about by a group of pro-democracy activists against the Chinese Internet search giant and the People's Republic of China will proceed in the U.S.

Reuters said today that U.S. District Judge Jesse Furman in Manhattan said the group has the right to serve the lawsuit on Baidu's New York-based lawyer. The move comes as China used its power as a sovereign state to block the censorship case, which was invoked in 2011 by a group of writers and films makers accusing China and Baidu of moving to eliminate their political speech from Biadu's search results.

According to Reuters, "Furman gave the plaintiffs 30 days to serve the complaint to Baidu's U.S. lawyer, and 120 days to serve China through diplomatic channels."

Shares are up about 0.3 percent today.
