Cats Can Unlock New iPhone 5s, But Security Isn't Compromised (AAPL)

September 19, 2013 7:16 AM EDT
How sensitive is an Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) iPhone 5s Touch ID sensor? It allows for non-humans to unlock the device, when programmed properly.

TechCrunch posted the video (below) and said that more failures were encountered than by human counterparts. It should also be noted that cats have unique paw prints, not unlike the uniqueness of each human fingerprint, meaning that the Touch ID isn't less secure than before.

TechCrunch also tried to register different parts of the body to scan, like forearms and palms, and found that both were successful, though they had more failures than just using fingerprints.

It was noted that this wasn't an attempt to hack the iPhone 5s sensor.

Shares of Apple are indicated higher Thursday.
